What are the lessons that you learned after reading the commencement address of Steve Jobs?

The first thing strikes into my mind about the commencement address of Steve Jobs is that it is very special. it is very historical that everyone must see and be amaze of it. Every word is meaningful as he heartily deliver it.

I learned that in every seconds of our lives should be spend according to what we want and what we used to. To follow other's desire is just a waste of time. We should consider the things that may do best in our lives beyond thousand doubts. We need to gamble things that may even makes us at worst and learn it as an experience to be strong personaly.

My favorite line about that commencement address is " Your already naked, There's no reason not to follow your heart." I was kinda amaze of that line and I was stunned by a second. I mean, I admit that I always obey and follow whatever other's want to because I'm kinda passive person but its just I realize in having a passive personality do nothing about my life .

Mistakes do nothing about our lives but the achievements comes a very important role. We don't need to show how great person we are but how we humbly show the things we've done

My purpose in life is ......

My purpose in life is to achieve my dreams and be an inspiration to other.. The real way to get happiness is by giving happiness to other people ..

Personal Insights

It is easy for us when we are to determine the personality of the person around us, most likely when it comes criticizing the attitude of that person for the sake of conversation. For my point of view, it is in the manner of the Filipinos in giving too much attention on the attitude of the other not knowing of what kind of personality does we have, and how we deal with it in a good way.

The attitude itself defines on how we deal with life, and how cool we are on controlling it. Definitely, what you are showing right now reflects on how you control your business. Somehow, you should work to develop your own personality traits if you are planning to create a business. Perhaps, considering the sense of the other may develop our own traits, for instance, even we already knew the right decision for a particular situation, but may oppose with your team, and then it is not that bad if we revoke it. Right isn’t always best, but best is always right. I am not that good in holding such difficult situation, but I can charge it as a good experience even it is at worst. I admit that there are times that I can’t afford to fix that stuff but learning into it is the best way I can do.

I was amazed on the given exam by our instructor recently. The situations are quite confusing related to how we deal with business. It is the outlook of how we see our selves and what are we going to do when there are such situations and stuffs like that. Every questions seems puzzling, its like questions are both right but which do we prefer to do. In fact, as we check the results, some numbered items corresponds the same scores. I supposed there is no way that the exam is ineffective. I think, all newbie businessmen should take that particular exam to know their capabilities in holding such difficult situations in the field of production and business. Luckily, I got a good score which defines me as a good technopreneur someday. It gives me a motivation to pursue my course and build any computer related business. Most of the successful men have not achieved their distinction by having some new talent or opportunity presented to them. They have developed the opportunity that was at hand. Successful always has a number of projects planned, to which we looks forward. Anyone of them could change the course of his life. I can see myself as a great technopreneur maybe 5 years from now, running a business with the influence of technology. Also I would love to create jobs to help if possible. I will use my knowledge in my field of technology to provide the easiest way to promote my business and the effective way to sell it. In other words, being an employee could be more difficult in reaching our dreams than owning a business, also being an employer. That is somehow a reason of our other fellowmen in getting abroad because of insufficient salaries given by our government.

By stating all this facts, I want to pursue my dream to be a great technopreneur someday. Perhaps, it could be a hard try for me, yet huge determination brings me to great success. I know this is not enough but may consider as a great factor in achieving those stuff. At first, I was making fun of it, I mean, it’s like “the hell I care with those business and stuff!” after all, I am contented on what do I have since then. Apparently, I was shocked after our first lecture. I just realize that it is true. It is the mindset of every individual to get employed after graduated. And it is depressing, I mean who doesn’t want money? We all know that business is money. Who doesn’t know about Bill Gates? I know that he’s very unreachable right now but he’s a great inspiration to us, future technopreneur. Being an employer is part of being a technopreneur, we must achieve its minimum requirement to create a good business. Also it conceives of a productive activity, we must know the of how the business will effectively run and how strategies will perform to be globally competitive in such a way that your creating a job at the same time. It is not just gaining profit, but helping our country to be more progressive. As our Instructor has taught us, we do not need ourselves to get employed but to be an employer. We have to take the challenges and strive to lead our lives with greater success. We don’t have to afraid to fail. We must take failure as a learning experience, a stimulator to look things differently and stride for the next challenge. Technopreneurs continuously go through an organic process of continual improvement and always try to refine the dynamic digital economy.

They say “Money is the root of all Evil!” I say, “Who cares?” haha! Just kidding, maybe it depends on how we deal with it. There is no way that money is bad. But the people who are using it badly.

As they say “Technopreneurship, in essence, is making money out of technology.” Which is definitely true. But most of us are not warmed up yet to the idea that scientific or technical way could roll into a business enterprise.
It is hard to come up with such brilliant ideas right now, there is still too much of stuffs to learn and maybe it has something to do with my attitude and traits, it has something to develop it on my own. Perhaps making such inventions is not that impossible nowadays, but on my point, it is hard to create such useful things because almost all of it is already invented. Still, there is no place of loosing hope, I’m still young to give up on creating new stuffs that maybe useful for each individual. There are times that I was confused, whether what I want for myself and what is the best for my self. More likely, it is hard in making decision when you have doubts, when are you are not so sure of yourself. Like for instance, my friends. As a teenager, there is no way that I don’t need them. But there are times that I have to leave. That is priorities, which giving a huge gap between myself and them. I admit that there are times I act like stupid, and most of them hate me when I do that. I’m glad some are real. They completely understand of what stupidity really is. It is just making the same thing for sometime and learn from it a hundred times. As an IT student, it is an advantage for me to engage with this kind of business, putting my knowledge into buying and selling of products, services and others. At the start, I expect that being an information technology student is just studying computers and other stuff, I under estimated the field that I chose, I’ve just realize that there are so much inside of it. It is very wide that it exceeds my expectations and limitations, that there are so many useful things we should consider in the field of technology, were not just aware of it. Technology and entrepreneurial skills are driving economies into prosperity. As I have searched some facts about Technopreneurship, I was amaze of its definitions. It is not a product but a process of synthesis in engineering the future of a person, an organization, a nation and the world. In a digital, knowledge based society, strategic directions and decisions-making processes will be demanding and complex. As the article says, this requires tertiary level and professional development programs and training to produce strategic thinkers who will have the skills to succeed in a dynamically changing global environment. Traditional educational programs, however, lack the methodology to transform today's students into creative, innovative, visionary global leaders who understand the importance of technopreneurship.

As I have to describe myself, it was very confusing task for me. Perhaps I forgot to criticize myself while I’m doing that to others frequently. Still I have to, nevertheless, it is awkward. As I pictured it out, there are only two images reflecting on my self. Some find me negatively because of my unwanted attitude and some find me positively, those are my good friends, ahaha!. Maybe

I’m perfectionist; I always find the right one for satisfaction. It’s just I find it more depressing when I did not do it perfectly. I am somebody who likes or wants everything to be a certain way or everything to be perfect. Sometimes I feel that anything less than perfect is unacceptable. Negatively, I feel Low self-esteem. Because a perfectionist never feels "good enough" about personal performance, feelings of being a "failure" or a "loser" with a lessening of self-confidence and self-esteem may result.
Guilt. Because a perfectionist never feels good about the way responsibility has been handled in life (by himself or others) a sense of shame, self-recrimination and guilt may result. it is more likely Pessimism. Because I convinced that it will be extremely difficult to achieve an ideal goal, he can easily become discouraged, fatalistic, disheartened and pessimistic about future efforts to reach a goal.Depression. Needing always to be perfect, yet recognizing that it is impossible to achieve such a goal, a perfectionist runs the risk of feeling depressed.

Also I’m a gambler, literally, gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. I always take the risk when situations are difficult and unusual. Although, I’m a steady type of a person, Still, I am not satisfied with doing nothing. Even gambling is the only choice is left. Sometimes depression counts myself. Needing always to be perfect, yet recognizing that it is impossible to achieve such a goal, a perfectionist runs the risk of feeling depressed.

Sometimes I’m desperate, I want things badly, even is not meant for me. I show extreme urgency or intensity especially because of great need or desire, I felt a desperate urge to confess,

I am an Open minded person, I always listen to the people around me when is right or it is the best for me. Each person's opinions are their own and like it or not, having an open mind precludes a person from the chance of trying to hold another person back because their views are different. Also because I have the habit of throwing in bad and tasteless jokes at inopportune times does also not necessarily make me or anybody else closed-minded. I'm not claiming, however, that I am an open-minded person. In fact, I would venture to suppose that I am very closed-minded. I do not feel that there is anything wrong with that. I accept people, and granted as ignorance grates my nerves, I try to be patient with those I consider wrong and help point out the error of their ways. While not being an open-minded position, it is beneficial to both myself and those to whom I am in conversation with because this communication is essential in changing both of our views. I know I may pretend to be smart, but I know I am an idiot as I am ignorant on many issues and facts. One may say that you should not remove the splinter in your brother's eye if you feel to see the plank in your own. I do not agree with that position as I believe all humans have that plank blocking their vision. The only way that we can affect for a change for the better is to remove the splinters from others as that is what we can see.

I don’t know how other person treat me but definitely, there is a big difference the way they treat me when I’m around and when I’m not. I don’t care if they like me or not. It is just a matter of knowing how I handle and control my personal traits. Above all, I know my limitation and I always be.

IT Elective - BIST 3

Question No. 1

What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?\

I have read some definition of success, it actually says “The Great secret of success is self-discipline - getting yourself to do what you really need to do – choosing to do what you feel is right an will bring the results you want into your life – long term. It is bringing order and efficiency into your life. Creating structure into your life and doing this enthusiastically! Succes comes from taking charge of yourself and feeling proud of yourself when you do”..

Most of the successful men have not achieved their distinction by having some new talent or opportunity presented to them. They have developed the opportunity that was at hand. Successful always has a number of projects planned, to which we looks forward. Anyone of them could change the course of his life.

As I watch the movie, I was so impressed not only on Bill Gates but also on Steve Jobs, not on his informal attitude but on his creativity, being an artistic person is such a useful characteristic to seek unique opportunities for themselves. He had all this brilliant idea to create prototypes which have been copied by Bill Gates. I am very inspired on his thought that I took some of his lines and make use of it.

I have concluded the factors contributed to his success after I watch the movie.

His Grateful Attitude leads his way to create a great company. Most of the people nowadays complaining how hard and miserable life is, Steve Jobs on the other hand have grateful personality towards life. His optimism gives him the right attitude to accept hardship and to sail his way to success. Although bankers did not approve his requests for his projects, still, his faith is too strong to fall. He uses his failures to strive hard to improve his idea instead.

He always Think Differently in every idea that he wants to pursue. In Fact, the first advertising slogan of Apple Computer is “Think Different” that all of their gadgets are uniquely made. The ones who see things differently. Some people think that they are insane of looking things differently, but Steve Jobs use it as how he make unique solutions in every problem. In a way that he does not admire bigger companies in order to build such different project.

The Power of his thoughts. Thoughts are the core of our life because it’s where everything else begins. Thus, successful people are careful of their thoughts. As I watch the movie, every thought of Steve Jobs are very inspiring. His mind assumes the form of anything it contemplates. When he think of an object, his mind shapes itself into the form of that object. Also the power of his thought makes his co-workers also think differently. That’s why Apple Computer’s is one of the biggest companies nowadays. While most of us believe that life is a destiny, successful people, however, knows that life is more of a choice. And such choice is from our thoughts.

He Knows How to Prioritize. That factor is a big help to Steve Jobs. He sees things that are very important. He knows that time is their most important asset. For time wasted is equivalent to a dime and life wasted. He o not try to accommodate everything; instead, he act on something that is included in their properties and say no to those that are not as important.

He is a Wise Man. He is wise enough to search for the improvement of his computers then he is trusted by the investors to create such huge company to build up. Steve Job uses his mind creatively. By removing his beard proves that he is a wise man, that beard serves as an investment to his computers to be able to trust by investors. He is also very strict when it regards to employees to work with. On the movie, he demolished one of his applicants as interviewed by Steve Jobs. He explained to Steve Wozniak that if they completely open the door, bad factors will come in. Also, they went to Xerox to steal those graphical user interfaces and ask for the mouse and how does it function and recognize by the computer.

His Charisma matters. I remember that Steve Wozniak commented on how Steve Jobs deal and communicate with other people for their first computer. He said that Steve Jobs were amazing, he make the people around them very impressed on what they did like almost all of the inventors and presenters are keep on asking on how does it works. Also he uses his charisma to steal idea the of Xerox in order to improve the apple computers.

Unfortunately, Steve Jobs wasn’t that good to maintain his position. Almost all of the people around him are leaving because of his unwanted attitude which brings him to down. Steve Wozniak and other people around him are keep on telling and giving advise but Steve Jobs did not even listen.

Steve Jobs is an autocratic person. As the Apple Computers became successful, He offensively orders his employees which leads to disloyalty of his members. He is too aggressive and dominant. He always think that he is the most powerful person because of his ideas. He yells the people around him when he is not on the mood, and asking too much for their work that his members are too sick because of his unwanted attitude, like he do not know his limitations. He always cross the lines between him and his employees.

He does not know his responsibilities as a leader and as a father. He always leave when things go wrong and unusual. He loves to see people in a crowd are fighting like separating his members into apple and the macintosh team. He did not also take the responsibilities of being a father to her child at first, because he thinks that it might affect his career.

It was a nightmare to Steve Jobs for the first time he build the Apple Computers, everything change in him. It was a good idea that the president of the apple fired him, for him to know his limitations and realize his mistakes as a technopreneur.

Question No. 2
How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?

I was so confused at first of what technopreneurship really is, maybe it is just a subject that we are about to take and we must pass it as a prerequisite for the other subject. Until we had our first meeting and quiz at the same time. I realize that it is not that bad to learn and make use of it. The essence of being a technopreneur is making an entrepreneur be creative, innovative, dynamic, dares to think different and take the unexplored path and to be very passionate on their work. There are so many things to define technopreneurship, I was amaze! It is really good idea of combining traditional buying and selling of goods, services, and other source of income to the field of technology which brings the easiest way to extend market reach, improve quality and customer services and to increase productivity.

As an ordinary teenager, I know that it is impossible to reach those brilliant ideas but as an IT student, maybe I can! Man! I want to be someone like Steve Jobs of Apple Computer! Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google! Bill Gates of Microsoft! Even technopreneurs of Facebook! And Youtube! Man that is so cool! Anyway, reaching of those ideas is possible, I know. Even Steve Jobs starts at the garage because they can’t afford to provide a space for their own office at first and Bill Gates was just a simple student who just own brilliant ideas. Quite depressing. Maybe their determinations lead their dreams to be on top. And that’s what I have, a lot of determination.

Entrepreneur stands a very important role in market industry; it has to do with strategic planning for your business to survive that’s why they created Technopreneurship, it is an effective way of buying and selling products with the influence of technology, accessing information, sharing resources, servicing customers and create advertisement and promotions of your business over the internet.

The most famous of them all is Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and other. As I have search some facts about Technopreneurship, I was amaze of its definitions. In other words, being an employee could be more difficult in reaching our dreams than owning a business, also being an employer. That is somehow a reason of our other fellowmen in getting abroad because of insufficient salaries given by our government.

As anyone else does, after they graduated in their colleges, they are preparing their selves for departure; they go to abroad to seek for a good job. Serving other countries and fellowmen which is very depressing. Not knowing that there are still a lot of job opportunities right here in our country which they did not notice at all. Some are spending a lot of money just to provide their needs on their departure, Unfortunately, some are get scammed because of their desperate attitude just to get abroad and just to be treated like a slave. As I understand our lesson, Technopreneurship concerned in the field of business that is somehow related in the field of technology which enhances the ability and skills of an IT and also giving great opportunities to stay and work for our own country, this includes the progressiveness of the Philippines itself. Definitely, on my opinion, IT’s contribution will bring the Philippines to be more globally competitive in the field of technology. I believe, being an IT is not just about of how to program of those stuffs, but giving relationship between life and technology, comparison of old beliefs with computers, and enhancement between traditional trading to extended market reach and increase productivity. These goals can be achieved, in part, by using technological solutions which is mostly used by other country to improve their own business.

Question No. 3

Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?

Of course! I will! I mean who doesn’t want to take the same career of Steve Jobs? Maybe no one, if he’s not the founder of the Apple Computers, the most innovative force behind the personal computer revolution of 1980’s. Although Steve Job’s relationship with the company he founded did not found it as a happy one and then he was forced to quit on Apple Computers in 1985, still, he’s a great man after all. Maybe he change his personal traits after he turns back as a consultant, we would not know because the movie ends there, but I think that he does, he would not turned back to Apple Computers if he did not realize his mistakes as a great leader.

As I search for the name “Steve Jobs of Apple Computer” on the web, there are too many results specified, “The man who sees the future”. Who doesn’t want that? LOL.

Definitely, he’s a great technopreneur, He was named interim chief executive officer of the ailing company in September 1997, was chiefly responsible for returning it to profitability, and was named CEO in January 2000. Steve Jobs also is the CEO of Pixar Animation Studios, which produces computer-generated films such as Toy Story in 1995, A Bug's Life in 1998, and Toy Story 2 in 1999.

What a great facts about Steve Jobs, not about of being an arrogant, but his brain, his brilliant ideas, the way he sees future, brings himself to be more dominating programmer, designer and other stuff. Creating such a huge company is impossible, but for him only his determination builds it. The way he think that he can, the way he think that he can bring down those IBM people, and the way he think differently on how to provide unique solutions than other.

I think that he was forcedly out on Apple Computers not because the president of the company that time wants to bring him down but just to make him realize that too much arrogant may affect the company they build. Also, the president wants to help Steve Jobs to bring his friends back and the other people around him because of his unwanted attitude.

I admit that there are some part of the film that are very irritating on Steve Jobs, he always think that he is the only one who founded the Apple Computers without any help of his team except Steven Wozniak. He even divided his team into two, the Apple II and the Macintosh and to know who’s the best for him which Steven Wozniak get mad about it in a way that he decided to quit on the Apple Computers and leave his best friend for good. The battle between two teams continues until Steve Jobs depends on Macintosh. It was a nightmare to Steven Wozniak to leave his best friend alone but he think that he’d left no choice. He could not control he’s best friend anymore because it was too much blinded by power and exposure.

When I look upon to his child and hot girlfriend (just kidding), it was demolishing! I mean how does he dare to abandon that lovely child? Just because of his career? He thought that the child might ruin his plan which is not.  He keeps on pretending that the child is not his responsibilities but his conscience tells him he has to. But who I admire most is his hot humble girlfriend that she always shows forgiveness to Steve Jobs whenever he’s coming home. She always wanted that whenever her child awakes, there’s a father taking care of their child and that’s Steve Jobs.

We learn early on the film that Steve Jobs is adopted and he faces many difficult issues because of his lack of self-identification as a result of the adoption. He sees himself as a visionary, an artist, one who “can change history”, and yet is hesitant to take responsibility for the illegitimate child he brings into the world. That’s why I think that he delivered himself as an arrogant person because of difficulties he experienced since then which I completely understand with Steve Jobs. I know that people around him is so sick of personal traits of Steve Jobs but I think that it’s just a matter of patience and must be understand.

Who doesn’t know about Bill Gates? The wealthiest man on America and one of the most influential personalities on the ever-evolving information superhighway and computer industry. The one who developed Windows which is from the prototypes of Apple. But the irony of this film is that Apple stole the “windows concept” from Xerox. Bill Gates is depicted as the typical computer nerd, who leaves a Harvard education to start Microsoft with his friend Paul Allen. He is shown as driven, an opportunist who will stop at nothing to get the idea out there “first”.

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are the true revolutionaries of our time. Not the students who occupied the dean’s office in the late ’60s. Not the anti-war marchers who were determined to overthrow the establishment. But Jobs and Gates are the ones who changed the way the world thinks, acts and communicates. They are the great man who reigns in the field of computers and who brings the world closer to technology.
In the movie it is depicted that Microsoft owns a part of Apple. In reality, the shares owned by Microsoft were non-voting and later Microsoft sold these shares back to Apple after two months.

Most of the people don’t have the idea of the historical development of technology even personal computers. It is definitely a new concept but we have grown very familiar with. The Pirates of Silicon Valley is an amazing illustration on modern day technoprenuers and gives us an inside look at the management style of both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

I would like to use this film as an instrument in enlightening depiction of the evolution of a true phenomenon, the age of personal computers. Even more so, this film shows the men behind the machines, a story that shouldn’t be missed.
